Midsummer music in winter
Ilford Recorder 4th December 2008
A NEW monthly live music series has been launched at Ilford Sports and Social Club.
Redbridge Green Fair's popular Midsummer Music Fest is now running winter gigs providing a host of class acts as well as offering a platform for some of the brightest and best new young talent, especially from the area.
The series kicked off at the club at Cricklefield Stadium, High Road, Ilford, on Friday with '60s, '70s and '80s rhythm and blues, rock and soul classics from the Blue Hearts, featuring the powerful vocals of Gloria G.
From now on, the gigs will be on the second Friday of each month.
The next is on December 12, when Ten String Fever (pictured left) top the bill. Jane Miller on electric violin and Terry Spooner on guitar incorporate elements of jazz, folk, classical and world music.
Two support acts will perform each month.
New Year treats will include raunchy blues band, Dr Blue and the Prescription, cool funky jazz from Groove Therapy and PK Quartet, psychedelic rock from The Green Ray, jazz swing standards from Bernice, indie singer-songwriters, Lizzie B and Mike & Sameena, and folk band The Kittiwakes.
